Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers about Chore-List, the family chore board that pays.

Chore-List on a phone: the family board in your pocket

What is Chore-List?

Chore-List is a family chore app that works like a Trello board for your household. Each person gets a list with their photo and balance; chores are cards with dollar values; completing a card credits the balance instantly; and kids spend their balance on rewards that parents define.

How much does Chore-List cost?

Chore-List is free while in beta. Create a family account and use the full app - board, recurring chores, rewards, kiosk mode, and the API - at no charge.

Can other families use it, or is it just for one household?

Any family can create its own account. Chore-List is multi-tenant: each family’s members, chores, balances, and rewards are completely separate and private.

How do kids get paid?

Balances are tracked inside the app - Chore-List is a ledger, not a bank. When a chore is completed, its dollar amount is credited to the kid’s balance immediately (or after an adult approves it, if your family turns that setting on). Parents settle up in real life however they like; the app’s history shows exactly what was earned and redeemed.

What are Open Chores?

Open Chores are unassigned jobs on the board that anyone in the family can claim. Whoever claims a chore becomes responsible for it and earns its payout when they complete it.

What is kiosk mode?

Kiosk mode is a wall-display view of the board for a kitchen tablet. Any member can create a revocable display link that shows only the chosen lists, with tap-to-complete rows and a live clock. You can protect the link with a 4-digit PIN - the kiosk shows a number pad before any board data. It has no settings or management features, and actions taken on it are recorded under the member who created the link.

Can parents require approval before kids earn or spend?

Yes. Two family settings - “completion requires approval” and “redemption requires approval” - hold a kid’s credit or redemption until an adult approves it. Both are off by default, so by default credit and redemptions are instant.

Does Chore-List work with AI assistants like Claude or ChatGPT?

Yes. Chore-List has an MCP server and a REST API. Adults create an API key in the app settings, connect their AI tool to https://chore-list-app.234apps.com/mcp, and then manage chores in plain language - creating tasks, checking balances, redeeming rewards, and more.

How do reminders work?

Reminders are email-only. Each task can have multiple reminders set in minutes, hours, or days before its due time, and there’s a family-wide default (24 hours before) that individual tasks can override.

What happens to chores nobody does?

They sit in the Overdue group until they’re completed or dismissed. Adults can dismiss all past-due tasks in a person’s list at once, marked as incomplete, for a clean slate.
