The Chore App Your AI Assistant Can Run: API + MCP Built In

Chore-List is a family chore app with a full REST API and an MCP (Model Context Protocol) server. That means an AI assistant like Claude can add chores, check balances, and manage rewards for your family in plain words - no other chore app we know of exposes one.

The Chore-List family board: one list per person, with balances and an Open Chores pool

What “manage chores with AI” actually looks like

“Add a chore: mow the lawn, $8, for Aaryan, every Saturday at 9 AM, with a reminder the night before.”

Say that to your connected assistant and the recurring chore exists - priced, scheduled, reminding. The assistant uses Chore-List’s MCP tools, authenticated by an API key an adult creates in the app. Everything the API creates is scoped to your family only, and keys are revocable at any time.

Frequently asked questions

Which AI assistants work with Chore-List?

Any assistant or tool that speaks MCP or plain REST. Setup guides for Claude, ChatGPT, and Muse are on the AI & API page - you connect with an API key an adult creates in the app’s settings.

Do I need to code to use it?

No. If your assistant supports MCP, connecting is pasting an endpoint and your key. The REST API is there for tinkerers and automations; the MCP path is there for everyone else.

Is it safe to let an AI manage the chore list?

The key belongs to an adult account, sees only that family’s data, and can be revoked instantly. Actions taken through it are the same actions the app itself allows - chores, balances, rewards - and they land in the same history.

Can the AI mark chores complete and pay the kids?

Yes - completing a task through the API credits the balance exactly as tapping it in the app does, including the email to adults. Families who want a human checkpoint can enable the approval setting.

What does it cost?

Nothing extra. The API and MCP server are included free, like the rest of Chore-List while in beta.

Developers and the curious: full endpoint and tool documentation is on the AI & API page.
